I really am looking forward to this one. The overtime that enabled me to seal the deal early is coincidental and wasn't planned so it was kind of Robert and Chrystel to agree to my suggestion of installments.

Under normal circumstances this would probably be the only way I'd be able to afford one. I tried saving and even have a seperate account to drop savings into but life seems to be a series of crises lately and invariably I dip into the pot to sort another emergency that needs quick cash. At least with installments it's going towards the kilt and can't be reallocated once it's sent. Thank goodness for Paypal.

Robert has promised to send me more pictures as the kilt progresses. I'll post them on here as and when I receive them. Obviously when the kilt arrives I'll take some pictures as well.

Good news (for me at least). I've received some more pictures of the kilt under construction. Unfortunately I'm not in a position to post them just yet but I'll upload them as soon as I'm able.

Even better news... I should also be able to post pictures of the finished kilt at the same time. Chrystel contacted me to let me know that work was complete and she's posting it to me Tuesday 09 Mar. It's coming from France to England and I've got a week to go, where I am currently. Optimistically we will both arrive at my front door at about the same time. I'll get the pics up as soon as...

Can't wait!

You can afford it. Negotiate an installment plan. The wait is agonising but the end result is the same.

Short of an ebay miracle on the fabric, have a look at the 'House of tartan' website (Google's y' friend). They've got a reduction on just now although it is still quite pricey. You'd need 6 yards of single or 3 yards of double width for a double box pleat.

It's here...

First off:

Chrystel sent me some more making of pictures a couple of weeks ago. I'll stick those up first. I love these photos.

I'd like to give you a running commentary through those but I have no idea what's being done. I am clueless when it comes to sewing. Sorry.

Anywhoo...

The kilt arrived on Friday. Unfortunately there was no-one home so the postman popped a card through the door to tell us he'd been... and gone... but by the time someone was available to collect it it was Monday already and so my kilt spent the weekend in the post office.

I came home yesterday (Tuesday) and thankfully none of the family had opened the package so I got that great unveiling moment all to myself. I was like a kid at Christmas I can tell you.

Very sturdy package it was and inside, the Kilt was wrapped and packed securely in white tissue paper. The care taken over the packaging meant that the kilt arrived wrinkle free and ready to wear, straight out of the box.

The outside back of the Kilt with the basting stiches in.

The inside of the Kilt. (The spot is camera glare and not on the Kilt). There are two buckles, one outside on the outer apron (right hand side) and one tucked inside that attaches to the left hand edge of the underapron (seen here). I've not seen this arrangement before. All my knife pleats buckle through the left hand side of the outer apron. I like it though as there is less hardware visable when the Kilt is worn.

As worn... From the front

Front again.

The pleats (there are 10 pleat tops with zigzags going down to the underpleats).

It's a truly lovely thing. The hand stitching is invisable and it fits me like a glove.

Seriously, I am in AWE!

Dear John ,

These photos are incredible. You look grand. We love the details of your outfit (the maroon t-shirt and all).

Did you find the flashes ?

Best,

Robert & Chrystel
