Lochcarron Casual

I recently was told that Lochcarron makes both a 13oz. and a 16oz. casual kilt.
Does anyone have additional information and/or experience with these kilts?
I have not been able to find any information on the net about them.

I may be wrong...?? But believe Lochcarron only sells fabric. They did sew up a made-to-measure argyll jacket for me - so maybe they sew up kilts too.

They have an excellent customer service dept. Why not give them a call or an email and ask?

I actually like them quite well. They are made from the exact same cloth that our standard kilts are made of, so no compromise there. The only real differences between Lochcarron's casual kilts and their standard 8 yard kilts are 1) the casual kilts have about half the cloth, which means you don't get as many pleats and the pleats are not as deep (it also means the kilt is lighter), and 2) the pleats are machine stitched, not hand stitched.

Other than that, the construction and style of the kilt are for all intents and purposes the same.

PS to Ron, just so you know, Lochcarron does have their own in-house kilt makers, so they most definitely make kilts. However, they outsource the jackets they make. So while it is true they can provide tailored jackets (in fact some of the jackets we sell are Lochcarron brand), they are not actually made in-house.

I used to have one, as well; that was back in the days before Matt made four yard kilts, mind you. I liked it very well, and it was a good looking and hanging kilt. I'd give it my full endorsement.

That said, when I shrunk out of it, I asked Matt to take it appart and make it into a box pleated kilt that fit.

I have two of the Lochcarron casuals. My Northumberland was my first kilt. I also have a Buchanan old sett, weathered. Both very nice kilts, well made.

My Cameron Mod. is a Lochcarron, 8 yarder of 13 oz. wool. Keeps me fairly warm in the winter and it's not too bad in the summer.
