Looking for Kilters in Houston, TX

Hi all! I'm new to XMTS, but have been wearing a Great Kilt for 5 years now, mostly to Texas Renaissance Festival, and the Houston Highland Games. Only 2 of my friends have the testicular fortitude to wear a kilt in public! We try to be as authentic as possible at Renfest. Anyway, I would love to have more people in our area join our troop. I am getting ready to order my 1st modern kilt, in the Gowan/Smith Tartan. My mothers side of the family. I would love to also do some Pub Crawling, with our troop, all kilted up! If you would like to join our clan, Houston Lions Kilt Society, please request to join our clan on FB, under Houston Lions Kilt Society. Or e-mail me at. kiltman51@yahoo.com.

    Thank You,

    Jonathan Deleon

I know there are at least a couple of us around, and I just brought one more into the fold last weekend with a nice Geoffrey(Tailor) kilt in the Holyrood tartan. ;-)

Given the size of "Houston," that's an understatement... ;-) I'm on the South side of Tomball, about 5 miles north of 249 and Beltway 8.

To put it into perspective for our non-locals, the greater Houston metropolitan area is bigger than several countries, the State of Rhode Island, and the population itself is more than several states... Saying 'let's meet in Houston' is about as precise as saying 'let's meet in Israel...'

    Hey

So true! Well D. A., I live off of Katy Frwy., and the Beltway! About 20 minutes away! Hell, half the time, I never get any responses from anyone in Houston! Everybody wants to join, from all other states! And when I'm at Renfest, I must meet about a 1000, people in kilts, all from Houston! Weird! It's like they are hiding, and don't want to be found! lol. I was on here, a while back, and seen probably 2 people from Houston, Zardoz being one! Now there are quite a bit! So I should be able to get some members!

    Kiltman51:

Hello from a fellow Houstonian. While I'm not particularly a fan of RenFests, I happen to own a modern Smith (Gow Hunting) kilt in the ancient colors. Here's link to my review of it: http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...eb-kilt-55158/

Here's a photo of Medic78 and myself wearing our Smith kilts at the recent Houston Highland Games which was taken by Zardoz. I remember wanting to see a photo of what the kilt would look like, as opposed to seeing a swatch of tartan and having to use my imagination... Hope this helps. I wish we'd taken a shot of the pleats, as Medic78's is pleated to the sett, while mine is to the red stripe.

Good luck with your kilt purchase and perhaps we'll see you in Salado this coming November.

    Smith's

Thanks a lot! They look great! Yeah all I have ever seen is the swath of fabric. None of my Smith uncles, wear kilts, which is a shame! Thanks for the pic! I will add to my group page, so I have an actual model to go by.

    Kilted in Houston!...Texas that is!!!!

You speak of "have(ing) the testicular fortitude to wear a kilt in public!" Well brother, lol, I must have some, and in spades...lol...try THIS on for size, first off, I'm HISPANIC, secondly, I have a serious Yankee accent (being born and rasised in Chicago does that), thirdly I'm part Navajo, and when I get angry (rarely) out comes the Mexican!!! And if Im dipping into me cups a wee bit too deeply, that slow Texas drawl comes to bear!!!...lol...yet despite all that I wear my kilts proudly whenever and wherever I can!!! I wear em to work (at the company formerly known as Compaq), I wear em out and about in the FM1960/BW8 area, and yes, even to the Tex Ren Fest. I've been to few pubs/bars downtown and around town and get compliments and raised eyebrows once in a while, but I care not for what the commoners think...I like it, I'm comfortable in it and damn all I look GOOD in em!!!....lol...To date I've got an AmeriKilt in green, I've got a ThriftyKilt in the Black Watch Tartan (modern) and I've made two of my own, so far, a solid black reverse Kingussie pleated kilt and a solid OD Green knife pleated kilt!!! I'm looking forward to making my first tartan kilt just need to decide what tartan to use!!!!

    Hi

Glad to hear it Mr. Mayhem! You sound like you would fit right in with my bunch! Come join our Texas Kilt Society of Houston. It's new, and we need members! Well, try this, I'm French on both sides, Mexican on my dad's moms side. Irish, Scottish, Welsh and German, on my moms side. I'm a Heinz 57. I lean towards me Irish side though. Hell I even have an Irish accent. Beat that one! I've used it for so long, it's natural now. lol If your on FB, just look up Kilts. You will see the new Clan Symbol I just designed for our troop. A shield, in the colors of Texas, with the blue forming a Scottish flag. City of Houston Seal in the middle. Or friend request me. Jonathan Deleon. My pic has my Smith Coat of Arms.

    Sherlocks @ Willowbrook????

I know it's short notice....but...today has been a rough one and since its the weekend and seeing as how I'm working tomorrow, kilted, anyone interested in meeting up at Sherlocks at Willowbrook Mall? Say about 3-3:30-ish?? In the afternoon/evening this Saturday(17-7-10)? Early I know but nothing like a cold one (or room temp if you like) bier in the afternoon...
