    Made my first kilt Saturday.

So with good reason and an upcoming occasion, I sat down and with the help of my wife we made our first kilt on Saturday night. Ok..........so it's for a one year old. We made the kilt out of 1 metre of PV in Maple Leaf that had been covering the wall of the "pub". It took awhile to get everything set up but once we got going it went quick (1.5 hours). I measure it all out, marked off where the pleats would be, folded, and than she ran it through the sewing machine. After we had finished, we sat back watched the end of Formula 51 (on the CBC unedited) and it hit me. I measured it wrong! I had measure the waist at 18" and had thought the front and underapron should be at 9 " each. I had completely forgotten about the back (the pleats) needing to be half the waist measurement as well.

All in all, it was a good learning experience, and we can still fix the kilt before the party Saturday. Regardless, the kilt looks great for a one year old.

Now, I can go get that 3 yards of 13 oz MacDonald Hunting or the 3.5 yards 16 oz MacDonald Weathered for $50 each that I found at the local shop the other day and test it out before I make my son his MacKenzie Morgan kilt.

Not a chance. I will leave that to the experts.

I have this massive length of Gray Stewart, small sett in PV and I keep thinking it'd make great kids kilts.

Sounds like it was fun. Well Aidan should be along any day now. Maybe Switchblade and I could make one for him.

Thanks, that was a year or two ago, but I still love that one too.

I really screwed up the measurement, so we are either going to try and fix the one we have (add a new front apron over the existing) or start from scratch. As it's for a one year old we are not too worried either way. I will take a few pics when it is done and than a few of the lad in it.

Hopefully I can convince my wife to make one in the Morgan MacKenzie for our son, as he has outgrown his old kilt.
