Marine Dress Blue Jacket

I have often thought about getting my Marine Corps Dress Blue Jacket cut for wear with a kilt.

Besides not be regulation, I wonder how it would look and go over

Mark,

The Marine pipe band wear the jacket you are talking about with a kilt in a solid color same as the Dress Blues pant also with the Blood stripe. I would love to have a set.

I've been thinking the same thing. If I even remotely stood a chance of getting just an ARM into mine I would have tried it already because I think it would look awesome.

Boy, I'm usually all for out on the edge, push the envelope stuff, but it didn't seem right to do that to THAT jacket...some sort of sacrelige...

Then the post that its already been done and my thoughts change completly to WHY NOT?!

I think it would be grand if worn by a Marine. I would never wear one (even if somehow they came that big!) There is some sort of sacred thing with Marine uniforms. Hard to explain as well.

I am ex-Navy. Don't get too exited about kids wearing pea coats or even Army field jackets, but a civilian wearing any part of the Marine uniform just does not sit right.

Having said all that, I believe it would be the business. waiting for pics........

How about your old Mess Dress jacket, if you have one? That works perfectly with a kilt with no alteration at all.

That's a good idea and they are half the price of a PC. I like the officer's one best but I wouldn't feel comfortable wearing it so I'll see if I can find a SNCO one in a fat, I mean LARGE, enough size

. On a related note, I have seen people wearing their miniature medals with civilian attire. Is there some kind of rule for/against it that anyone knows of?

Yeah. If I wear my old flight jacket, I look like someone trying to wear the clothes that fit them when they were a teenager.

A mess jacket is easy to convert. Just remove the rank insignia and replace the buttons. You can wear any miniature medals you were awarded with civilian attire.

Converting the USMC dress jacket for formal kilt wear will require tailoring. Here's how the US Coast Guard dress jacket is converted:
