Matt Newsome gets mention on BBC!
Our 'own' Matt Newsome has just got a mention on the BBC during the Pope's visit! It stated that he designed the new papal tartan.

That was quick! I'm watching the live coverage now, 1,000 pipers in Princes Street playing Highland Cathedral.
I think the tartan is St. Ninian's (it's St. Ninian's day today). James Naughtie (BBC presenter) sounded a little surprised when he said the tartan "was designed by Matthew Newsome, an American from North Carolina".

Yes, Matt got mentioned by name though the first reference to the tartan designer was "an American."
They even tried to explain the significance of the design.

According to the commentators Highland Cathedral was requested by former Cabinet Minister and last Governor of Hong Kong Chris Patton who also had it played at the handover ceremony there.
The fact that it was written by a German and played for the visit of a German Pope could well therefore be co-incidental.
