Midwestern Kilts - any experience?
Hi, all.
First, I'm feeling a bit timid about posting due to the reaction of my last post...but, I'll have courage!
Has anyone had experience with the company "Midwestern Kilts & Sporrans"? They can be found here http://www.midwestkilts.com
Long, long ago, I had a beautiful Black Stewart kilt from Riverkilt. I got rid of almost all of my kilts (grief issues/moving, etc.). Now I totally regret giving up that beautiful tartan! This place has the tartan at a reasonable price (and some other nice tartans); I wonder about the quality of the product.
Anyway, I came across the above site and wonder if any of you have a review of the kilts from this company (I did a search here at X-Marks, but couldn't find anything).
Thanks & God bless!

Re: Midwestern Kilts - any experience?
I think this is the first I have heard of them. Hope you are able to get a Black Stewart tartan kilt somehow, Pipesndrumsnun.
Good luck.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

I couldn't resist...I just ordered one.
I'll post a review when it arrives!

Sister,
Please don't take this as being critical of your posting, but rather an honest reaction to the web site and company you are asking about.
I have not done any business with Midwestern Kilt Company, so I cannot speak from that experience. But after looking at their web site, I feel confident I can tell you a few things about the business.
These are inexpensive acrylic kilts made in Pakistan. And they will be comparable in quality to just about any inexpensive acrylic kilt made in Pakistan that you can find on Ebay, or sold by any number of retailers such as this one.
Several times a week, I (and anyone else who is in the kilt business and has an email address) get emails from Pakistani companies offering to sell me kilts, sporrans, badges, jackets, pipes, drums, etc., at low, low prices. Sometimes I even get phone calls from them.
All it takes is for someone to reply to their emails, order a few dozen of these kilts and sporrans, set up a quick web site, and presto-chango, you are now a kilt merchant. That really looks like what this business is to me.
So, if you are ok with a cheap acrylic kilt made in Pakistan, these might be some good people to work with. I don't know as I have never done business with them. But you can also get pretty much the exact same kilts from Ebay, off the rack from vendors at most Highland Games, or from any number of other web sites such as this one.

I share the same exact sentiment that Matt has stated. This is nothing to do with you (I quite miss your posts ), just open and honest opinion.
One small thing of note: they have MacKenzie erroneously labeled as "Hunting Stewart".
I also concur with Matt that these are Pakistani kilts. If you're looking for a knockabout Pakistani import kilt, why not check out forum sponsor Stillwater Kilts. Jerry has Black Stewart and is in the same price points as this company (and you'd be supporting a sponsor) and the quality would be the same if not better.

Re: Midwestern Kilts - any experience?
Good Day Sir , I have not ever heard of this site ,but I looked at it and it looks alot like the Paki web pages ,Be carefull make sure you use Paypal and
make sure they keep in touch with you as I have heard some bad storys about these kind of sites in the past.
I ordered some Christmas from the Great Highlander Store and that bit me in the rear. I got my money back .
And I ordered from clans men knit wear .com and I thought before it was all done I was going to go insane.
All that to say -all these web sites selling items for dirt cheap are the SAME.
So be carefull.
Mean what you say and say what you mean

I have not dealt with or even heard of Midwestern kilts, nor has my husband.
But I would and have recommended Stillwater kilts to others as well as ordered from them in the past with no problems whatsoever. I would go so far as to say that communication from them is as excellent as their shipping times.
Not all vendors who sell similar products are the same but there are many who may take your money and disappear without a trace. I trust Stillwater wholeheartedly and love almost everything we've ordered from them..
For me, there is nothing in this world that holds the same fascinating appeal as watching the backside of well kilted man...

Re: Midwestern Kilts - any experience?
if you have not blown your "kilt allowance" completely or if you have time to cancel your order, stillwater kilts has an "extremely limited" quantity of 100% wool black watch kilts listed in the economy section for a few bucks less than the midwestern price for their 8 yd acrylic.
yes, i know the difference between black stewart and black watch, but wool is so much nicer than acyrlic.
