Robert,

Here are some past threads with pictures which may be what you are looking for. Also, there have been several discussions on the military box pleat. Way2Fractious has done a recent and thorough study of the design and construction and may be of help if you are planning on sewing your own.

Check the About Kathy link at http://www.kathyskilts.com/

Kathy went back to the Keith Kilt School in Scotland to learn how to properly make military box pleats.

Shoot her an email, she's a nice lady and I'm sure she'd answer any questions.

Here is a link to one of my threads where ChattanCat posted some pictures.

Here is where he posted the picture. I think this is the right picture, but I will remove it if it is wrong.

Robert, are you preparing to make a military box pleat kilt yourself? Or, are you looking to acquire one already made up?

I would venture that the "twirl" is not as impressive as a knife pleat or your double box pleat because the pleats are shallower and stiffer. In fact, some military box pleat kilts had elastic sewn inside the kilt, behind the pleats, to prevent full extension. But what it lacks in "twirl" is completely made up in its three-dimensional look and bi-directional swing!

Good morning W2f

Thank You for this precious info.
Chrystel wanted to make one as an "exercice de style". As a professional taylor, she loves having new challenges !
You can imagine that I certainly won't oppose any resistance if Chrystel wants to experiment with different kilts !
Would you have a military box pleat for sale ?

I don't have a "What Price Glory" kilt - but it is my understanding that they are military box pleated.

Their web-site is ..here.. and they are having a sale right now. And with the week dollar, it might be even cheaper for you.

I don't speak/read/write French, but I absolutely comprehend the concept you expressed! My kiltmaking memoirs have been published in my clan's newsletter, and may have to be reported here also. You are a lucky guy that Chrystel wants to experiment. Her double box pleat looks great, and her military box pleat will too if she can decipher the above-the-fell mechanics.

The traditional concepts and basic techniques for kiltmaking are wonderfully laid out in the book, "The Art of Kiltmaking," available from Celtic Dragon Press. Everything you need to know about working with wool fabric, and all the interior work to make a kilt that will last a lifetime or two, are there. That knowledge forms the basis before branching out into other pleating styles.

Let me check my closet. I seem to remember an MBP or two I acquired on Ebay during my "exercice de style", but have no recollection of the sizes.

Your question also pushes to the forefront another project, namely the detailed documenting of the making of military box pleats. The holder of my current kilt commission may cringe a bit, but this would be a perfect opportunity for photographing some of the difficult-to-explain steps.
