Modern MacDonald Infant Kilt Review

Before my son was born in February last year I bought an inexpensive lightweight infant kilt off ebay---I don't even remember the vendor, but it was only about $30 US shipped from Scotland. It is made of lightweight small sett tartan, PV presumably 8 or 11 oz tartan. It closes with velcro at the waist and has a black satin waistband and hemmed bottom edge. Manufactured by "Theres More to Tartan" and lists a website www.trewscot.co.uk. He has worn it many time from 2 weeks of age to now 15 months, and it still fits and functions well. So I thought I would I would review it for others who might be considering a similar purchase for a new loved one.

I can't get away with the jacobite shirt look as well as the boy can. Unfortunatley finding belt, sporran, and kilt pin appropriately sized for the boy is a bit of a challenge so we just do without---they would also be a bit more fuss than the young'un could take. Also tough to find appropriately sized kilt socks once he hit about 6 months old but should be growing into the pairs I have already bought for him soon. He prefers flat caps to tam's---balmorals and glengarry's are tough to come by in super small sizes.

Just to let you know I am not fishing for compliments or anything. Thought I was probably not the only member out there who had a little one they might want to kilt up early who could appreciate a positive review of a budget priced but functional option.

He's sporting the tartan with style and flair. Love the little Keens. A great outfit, great pictures, and looks to be a great kid. My congratulations. Edited to add: I know some people aren't fond of them, but I really like the flat cap as well.

By the way, the kilt is about 8 inches from waist to hem (drop) and when the two halves of Velcro and the two aprons are directly lined up the waist is about 18 inches, although it can be cinched up a bit tighter and let out a bit looser with overlap or uncovering of a bit of the aprons, respectively.

Good looking boy. He looks a little thin waisted like my son. Might I suggest just a small safety pin to function as a kilt pin. It's just a smaller verion of a real standard one and works well with the wee kilts. Sporrans are a little trickier, but you can fins small ones as SWK and even smaller ones at Celtic Croft. Either way, you will have to cut some chain out of it to make it work.

My son loves his kilt as well. He wears a navy blue onesie to go with it. Sometimes makes me wish they had onesies in menn's sizes

Flat caps rule! I think it's a great way top accessorize a casual kilted style without going formal. Perfect for me!
