more random Ebay sightings

As you may know, I troll Ebay regularly. Nearly lost in the Vast Tat Sea are things of interest, and here are some recent ones:

A 1955 Highland Dress advert. Note the slicked back hair, the omnipresent cigarettes. From a Highland Dress standpoint it's interesting to see neither men in Ghillies or Mary Janes but rather the slip-on loafer style dress shoes with nonfunctional decorative buckles near the toes. Also note the lines of lace/braid going from the buttons on both the cuffs and tail flaps, a nice detail left off of most modern PCs. One gent has a tartan waistcoat and white bowtie, very formal.



Here's another advert, much earlier, showing a Highland Dress on all fours with that seen in The Highlanders of Scotland: grey or brown plain hose, ankle boots, long hair sporrans, plain tweed jackets. One doesn't see Deerstalkers worn with Highland Dress much these days, but Colin Gordon, the Scot who founded The Scottish Fiddlers of Los Angeles, invariably wore a Deerstalker with his kilt.



Here's a faded gent in the old days, showing typical late 19th century/early 20th century Highland Dress, a goat hair sporran, notched-lapel waistcoat, wing collar shirt, Glengarry, and so forth.



Interesting that I found the photo above just today, but his dress is so much like how I dressed a couple months ago to visit the LA Anime Expo (no I'm not the robotlike guy!)

Now here's something interesting, a 1904 sporranesque purse made by Aitchenson:



Most modern sporrans don't interest me much, but from time to time a new sporran has a touch of the old look about them, like this one:



Now this made me do a doubletake, an Argyll jacket by Geoffrey (Pakistan) with the cuffs' buttons sewn in the wrong places

While very cool pictures, the Master Chief (aka Robot Guy) and I go waaaay back. It is his fault that I rebuilt the Man Cave from a library next to a wood stove, to a gaming system awaiting funds for a surround sound. To be blatantly honest, I am not sure which of you two in this picture looks the coolest. Who asked who for a picture?
