My first kilt and outing on the same day!

I am excited. I got my first kilt today

I received my Utilikilt Original in the mail today. I was so excited, I didn't want to take the kilt off to get a shower

I also had my first outing this evening. I attend night classes at a local technical school. I decided to wear the kilt. If I am going to wear the kilt, why not just jump right in! Being one who is not a "trend setter", I was a bit nervous, but God helped me. I did not hear one negative comment. I got a couple of questions, but I was not asked what was worn under the kilt. All in all, I had a great experience. The biggest encouragement came from a man in my class who is a big golf fan. He said Tiger Woods wears kilts and he thought kilts were "cool."

I do have one quick question. Is it OK to wear kilt hose with a "modern kilt" such as the Utilikilt? I would appreciate the feed back!

Well done! As to your question I often wear kilt hose and flashes (with sgian dubh or sgian don't) with my UK grey mocker. It looks great.

Where the modern kilt is concerned, I suggest checking out some of the many examples in Hamish' gallery.

Nothing wrong with hose, but I tend to only wear them in colder weather.

EVEYTHING looks good with a grey mocker...
heavy hose, oatmeal or grey..
i got some heavy argyle..looks good..
dress shoes, bucke shoes. combat boots, t shirts or dress shirt and tie..
a grey mocker is the one of the best neo kilts ever..
AND one doesn't have to put on the "usual" scottish extras..
sporran, no sporran, and sports jacket makes it look VERY dressy..
it's great with a tartan tie..
ANY tartan tie ! , show the family plaid without all the expence!
keep your hands out of the pockets,,and DO NOT wear Brown leather with it!!! ( that's the only thing to stay away from..)

Since originally posting this I have (on Hamish's advice) gotten a pair of grey flashes to wear with the brown hose. Also I would wear brown dress shoes instead of the hiking boots (or no flashes)

Didn't Virginia cavalrymen and infantry wear gray with brown leathers? Might work fine in the Virginia area....

Ron,

I've learned over the years that generalizations regarding Confederate uniforms (or lack thereof!) are a very, very dangerous medium to work in!

BUT, brown is appropriate with grey. I have seen several pictures of gentlemen wearing brown shoes with grey suits in satorial style guides.
