    My new kilt is here!

Well, more specifically, my first kilt is here! I absolutely love it. I got the black AmeriKilt and put it on as soon as it arrived yesterday afternoon. The only complaint I have is that I have to rearrange the pleats every time I stand up but that's not a very big deal, something I'll have to get used to.
So, I put on my kilt and wore it around the house for a while, the fit of it is excellent and I can't complain at all. I decided to go out to grab a soda and some more smokes as my first kilted adventure and it was fairly uneventful. Several double takes but no comments, there was one lass who seemed unable to take her eyes off me. The only, sort of, negative response was from my father and his contemtorary Christian rock group that he's playing with. The drummer said "you pick the coldest day of spring (it was in the mid 40's F here last night and today) to wear a dress" I shrugged it off but they went on talking about the famous song about the drunken scot (Well lad I don't know where ya've been but I see that ya won first prize) I got a chuckle out of that.
Move to today and I've just been rid of my only source of income (nearly the end of tax season) so I'm sitting here kilted typing a review of me kilt. Let us now see what the rest of the day brings!

pleat problems are common..make sure you do the butt-sweep as you sit down. That will eliminate most of your troubles.

Photos. Drat. I knew I was forgetting something. Hmmm... I'll see about squeezing my digicam in the sporran when I go out tonight and get a bud to snap a few for ya.
I'm getting the hang of the sweep and tuck it's easy to remember to do, the problem I'm having there is doing it well. I noticed a few wrinkles from the last time I sat.
I intended on going into more detail on the fit in the first post but it skipped my mind. Ok, the length and waist are perfect, the fell is 2 inches shorter than it needs to be (were it a tailored kilt) and the hip is just barely too short so the pleats to the immeadiate (sp) sides of the aprons are a little stressed. But other than that I love everything about it.
There's supposed to be a pretty bangin party tonight and I think I'll make my first appearance among my friends at this party. That should be most interesting.

Good first day! The band probably isn't really concerned if they are a contemporary band. I went to a guys night with some of my church buddy's in my PK MarPat and the firs tthing said was "Hey, who invited the skirt?" It was meant in fun and since the night was a "guy's night" it was in a funny context. The other military guys and the Vietnam Era Special Forces Colonel that was there appreciated the kilt for what it was.

The pleat adjustment is something you learn to work with on a cotton contemporary kilt. It will improve as you wash it and it softens but you will have to tuck the pleats on the front sides in after sitting or squatting.

If your getting a little pull across the apron, you might try undoing the bottom row of snaps on the Amerikilts. that may allow it to lay better and still keep it on.

Congrats on officially entering the world of the kilted! Two things:

    1. Aye! Pictures!

    2. When people say "Nice dress" to me I point at my collarbones and say "No, a dress comes up to here!"
