My New Sporran

A chance encounter of my friend Will with Pat led me to purchase this beauty. It was custom made for him by a now deceased leather craftsman. I'm very fortunate to have it now. The design came from a book called something like "So Now You Want To Wear A Kilt". Pat brought the design to his friend and this is the result.

Pat's an awesome guy and I hope he joins the X-Marks clan soon.

That would be "So You're Going to Wear the Kilt?" by the late J Charles Thompson, first published in the early 80s. Charles was the pre-eminent America authority on tartan and highland dress in those years. I have a wonderful copy of his last draft with marginal notes for changes to be made. If you can find a copy, pick it up!

That is the book. I have a good memory, it's just short.

BTW, Pat's selling his sword collection. He used to teach "Celtic Martial Arts" as he puts it. If anyone is interested, I'll pass along your name to him.

That's a nice day sporran. Everyone makes such a big deal about the "Rob Roy" type, and some have made sporrans based off the pattren that Thompson included in his book. But I have never seen anyone make the more standard looking day sporran. Looks good.
