My Occupational Tartan

I have found what I think will be perfect as an occupational tartan. It's the MacSporran tartan, for the "Keepers of the Purse". I think it would be an appropriate tartan for any financial type person to wear, like my own occupation
of accountant.



Of course, that means there is another tartan to put on my wish list.:rolleyes:

As black watch is an english government tartan it would be appropriate wear for a public sector employee!

I guess that as someone in the banking industry, MacSporran would work for me as well. Anyone know the history behind it?

From Scottish Tartans Authority:

It was reported by the Tartans Society in 1975: "Last year, John MacSporran, the chieftain-elect of the newly formed Clan MacSporran, visited to discuss the selectioin of a tartan for his Clan. Legend states that the MacSporrans - undisputed purse-bearers to the Lordhsip of the Isles - bore a gold thread prominently upon their sett. It is understood that efforts are still being made by MacSporran to identify the correct MacDonald or Lord of the Isles sett in which to intrude the traditional gold thread" MacDonald variation. Sample in Johnston Collection handwoven by Peter MacDonald.

Very interesting reading. Its a shame they weren't able keep it going. Wouldn't it be ironic if there dissolvement was due to an incapable treasurer ;) .

Besides MacSporran, Blackwatch, and clergy, anyone know of other occupational related tartans. I know some corpoations have their own, I'm more interested in specific trades.
