    My Sunday at Lowes

Sunday I had a few small jobs around the house to do and had to run to Lowes (hardware store) for a few items. I spend most of my Sundays kilted, just because it often my only day off from work. I wasn’t surprised when I got the usual nice kilt from a few ladies, a clerk told me he had an utilikilt but only wore it at home, and a few “cool kilt” from the younger guys in the store. But the best reaction to my kilt was while I was standing in the hardware aisle looking for wood screws. I overheard a woman telling her husband that she thought a man in a kilt was sexy, the husband responded that he would never wear one, and they walked off; I contained on with my shopping. A short time later as I was on another aisle I noticed the same couple lurking at the other end of the aisle talking, the husband turned and walked down the aisle stopping to look at the shelf next to me. In a really low voice not looking at me, but at the shelf, asked me where I had gotten my kilt that his wife had decided he should wear one. I smiled and told him about the website, and suggest he check it out. Then he turn and asked me how it felt to wear one, I smiled and said very free and comfortable, to which for a moment I got a blank stare. Then he realized what I was saying, and in an even lower voice ask if it was better than going commando in shorts, I smiled and said much better, his only response was “great” and he turned and walked away. I ran into them again as I was leaving, this time the wife approached me with a pen and paper, and asked that I write down the name of the website, after I handed the pen and paper back to her, she said “I don’t know what you said to him, but he change his mind about wear a kilt,” I replied “I guess it’s the comfort” I winked, she smiled and I walked away.

That is an excellent tale. I hope I can hear you tell it in person Thursday at Dan McGuiness'.

That is classy; I have worn my kilt to our Home Depot a few times but never had that reaction from that many people. I never was much on going commando in my shorts.

However, people thought I was strange when I used to train for marathons and wear those skimpy side-silted running shorts, and when I took the time to explain to people in the army or non-runners nobody ever understood, it was like trying to explain the pleasure of wearing a kilt.

Very nice story, nothing like converting more people to the kilt.
