My X Marks Tartan Kilt from Kathy's Kilts Arrived Today

    Happy Happy Happy!

I'm sitting here wearing my new X Marks Tartan hand sewn traditional "tank" and grinning from ear to ear.

I'm sure you're all well aware of Kathy Lare's craftsmanship. Combine that with a beautiful tartan and you've got the best!

Just posted pictures in my gallery. Bottom of page 7. Also have one on page 8 showing an effort to use the Blaxnit gold kilthose from Sierra Trading to bring out the yellow/gold in the X Marks tartan. Not sure the gold hose aren't a bit much but does look a tad jazzier than with the blue lovat kilt hose.

A dang shame that such a quality made kilt has to be hung on this old belly the day after Thanksgiving...but you get the idea.

Didn't add a sporran in the pics so you could see the kilt better.

    Ron,

The darker hose look better, but the gold hose looks just fine.

Very nice tartan. What was the cost for the kilt?

And, I think I've said it before, but, I was reminded once again by your galleries - I'm glad to see I'm not the only person who still wears a baja jacket.

Looking good Ron. I'm not too sure about the gold socks, but that's probably just because I've never seen it before. I can hardly wait until my fabric becomes a kilt. It probably won't happen untill after the holidays, so now that I've seen your kilt I have to be anxious and jittery all through Christmas jonseing for my new kilt. Just look at the abuse we heap on each other around here!

Don't wanna scare anyone off with the cost, because the value is solid.

Cloth was part of the group order from Fraser Kirkbright that Steve from Freedom Kilts was kind enough to handle for us. Think my final cost for 4 meters of fabric was $263.00 USD.

Kathy Lare was kind enough to agree to sew up the kilt and flashes and Steve forwarded the cloth to her. Kathy's craftsmanship was a mere $316 to sew up the kilt and flashes.

So looks like a total of about $579 which, to me, seems like a bargain for a custom weave of 14oz wool and the craftsmanship of Kathy Lare.

I also bought enough cloth for Kathy to sew me up an X Marks Tartan vest. She's still working on that. She took my measurements at the Flagstaff, AZ Highland games so should be a good fit. If you don't know Kathy check out her webpage at www.kathyskilts.com She's a real gift with her Scottish training and certification. And a nice lady too.

When the X Marks vest arrives I plan to wear it with my solid color kilts.

Thanks again to all those guys and ladies who made the X Marks Tartan kilt a reality. I came in on the tail end of the effort and just road the coat tails.

And, you dang betcha, baja's look great with solid color UKs.

Wow! Very impresive to see the tartan. The wall paper background on the board does not do this tartan justice!

OHHHHOOO! Ron your the first with his XMarks Tartan kilt. And don't that look good.

I see Kathy pleated yours to the sett. I'm doing mine to the gray stripe. The pockets are in and one more than half the pleats. Won't be more than three or four more months. (Sew in a pleat---rip out a pleat. Repeat ad nausium.).

Love that shirt. Where'd ya get it?
