    New home sewn tweed kilt

This is my first attempt at kilt making thanks to Barb and my own mistakes.
It is a lightweight acrlic blend with velcro fastinings.
I went out for my daily outing, so this the first time out in my new kilt.
I saw no one so no comments.

    Looking sharp: Bravo!

Tell us more about the fabric; that sounds very interesting...

    Home sewn kilt

The fabric was purchased at JoAnn's fabrics, for four dollars and some change a yard. I purchased 6 yards, which was the whole bolt. It is suppose to be 65% acrlic and 35% ? (I am thinking cotton). It is very light weight so I put in a lot of material into the heam and the outer apron edge to add some weight. I fabricated this kilt as a knock about and as a learning tool for some better kilts.
    I used Velcro as fastners,
I made a lot of mistakes and had to start over a few(lot) of times but that and Barb's book I muddled through.
It was fun and I have purchased 5 meters of a wool/ poly blend in a light grey and blue tartan.

Nice work, especially for a first try. I'm afraid to try my hand at it.

looks like a nice start. How well does the acrylic hold a pleat?
I recently tried my hand with some cheapola corduroy and the results were decent enough, but cotton doesn't hold a pleat worth anything. I'd like to find something that better approximates working with wool without approximating wools prices ;-)

Holds a pleat fairly good but it does wrinkle some what, so you must sweep as best you can.
