New Kilt style pictures

I ordered four yards of lightweight 57 inch wool from ebay just recently, in order to make my own kilt.

My dilemma was that I have no understanding of sewing or anything. So, I just folded the kilt as though it were a great kilt and wore it like that. I wear my kilts around town and to parties though, so I ultimately had to find a more casual look.

I folded the fabric in half before pleating so that the portion that normally makes the cloak/sash was layered into the pleats. This doubled the thickness of the kilt, and to my surprise, made for an excellent swish and depth to the pleats.

I need to get better at lining up my pleats. But still, look at the thickness of this thing!

This is just me being silly and trying to capture some movement in the kilt.

Anyways, just thought I would share my adventures in pleating. The thickness of this thing makes it such a joy to wear.

It looks pretty good. So, do you put a belt on to fasten the kilt and then fold the material back over and wear the kilt belt on the outside?

Basically this is a form of the philabeg isn't it, differing by folding the top half inside the lower half.

Looks really good. If I could get some fabric like that, I'd probably consider sewing in the pleats.

This is very similar to how I used to wear my great kilt. I folded the material in half lengthwise and sewed in cheater pleats. I left enough unpleated that I could have a really long underapron that came up from under my belt and over my left shoulder. If I felt like not having the tartan draped over my shoulder, I folded it and simply had a very thick underapron. I wouldn't recommend it with wool unless it was lightweight, but for my big PV great kilt it was great.
