So in this thread, http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/p...x.html?t=40148, I had quite a few votes for washing, basting, and pressing the old Stillwater (Macleod of Harris) kilt, and keeping it.

So we did. Well, we didn't keep it, but otherwise...

We just machine washed and dried the kilt.

Then, I basted it. There are actually a lot of pleats in this kilt! It took about an hour to baste it.







Then I pressed it. Note that after 3 years of hard wear, and many washings (without basting or pressing), the pleats were very hard to get perfect. I did the best I could, but it's still a bit "wavy".







We packaged up the kilt with some flashes.







And gave it to my younger brother today. It's just a little too big around the waist for him, but he assures me he is thinner than usual right now and it should fit him in a few months, once the weather cools off. Doesn't he look a bit like a Lawson's Scotch ad?







My mom gave him a Macleod T-Shirt she bought last year at the Loch Lomond Games (it was a bit too big for her). Never mind that the shirt is Macleod of Lewis and the kilt is Harris-it'll do.





Don't worry, I did emphasize that the basting stitches need to be removed, but he had a bit of a car ride home from my mother's place and I didn't want him to mess up the pleats on the way.

I must also mention, that when he came out of the bathroom kilted, he did have the pleats in the front! Why do so many new kilt wearers make that mistake?

Who knows, maybe he'll make an appearance on the boards as a newbie sometime soon!

You guys will do anything to get another one kilted wont you.

Actually, I'm thinking of getting my little sister to measure her hubby and our youngest brother for me so that I can make them x-kilts for Christmas.
They are young guys (about 20 years younger than me) and will probably enjoy a more contemporary styled kilt.

Cool; he looks like he'll actually wear it. I gave my uncle a SWK Thrifty in Black Watch, and to the best of my knowledge, the only time he's worn it was last year's highland games in Tucson.

It will be interesting to see how the wavy pleats will affect the swing of the kilt after a dram or two,..or three,..or four.....

You've done well in getting a blood relative in the kilt. My nephew has a virtually indelible indication of devotion to his Scottish heritage in the form of a deltoid tattoo, but I can't get him in a kilt...yet.

I'm glad my trusty Stillwater Mcleod has found a good home. It has served me well for over two years and am glad to see will continue to be useful.

I didn't get to present it to my brother-in-law in person, but from the pictures he seems like he is very happy with it.

I did order him a sporran and kilt pin from Jerry at Stillwater and will be mailing them up to him to help him complete his outfit.
