New kiltie spotted

My parents just got back from Europe and are now up in Chicago visiting me. I am kilted almost all the time now, and my parents are not fans of the kilt. My father mentioned that whilst in the UK, including Scotland, he did not see one person kilted. I found this interesting, if not amusing, especially since last night I opened my new show and ran into a kiltie at the after party. He had a black UK with a dress sporran. Looked pretty good. I told him about X Marks, and about Stillwater Kilts (I was wearing my black SWK Economy shadow tartan). There are more Polish in Chicago than in Warsaw, and apparently a higher concentration of kilties than in the UK. Hopefully X Marks will have a new member soon.

I suppose next time your father brings that up you could casually mention that sometimes it's not about numbers, sometimes comfort is about you.

My brother wore a kilt before me and is sour on them for anything but events. I brush it off.
New kiltie! Yay!

I've noticed that myself talking to scots living in Scotland, photos and stories in general, meaning, there is not a lot (read almost none) of kilted men in Scotland.

Only the few pipers and reenactors for tourists but not actual scots living their everyday lives.

Maybe for some events or local outings like our local celebrity from Dumfries, but not in the numbers we have here even in the US.

Funny how we seem to have more kilties here arguing about our scottish heritage while actual scots do not wear kilts en masse.

slainte tae ya!

I was in Glasgow on Dec. 30-31 and again on Jan. 2. Apparently I was also the only man in town w/ a kilt.
There were a few kilties about in Dumfries for Hogmany, though.

In my trips to Scotland, I have seen men in kilts on Sundays for church, formal parties and important events. When I traveled the Great Glen Way, one of the Scots in my group wore his kilt the entire time. I was the one Armerican with 7 Scots.

MacTavishofJapan is from Edinburgh, and the kilt he wore for his wedding (and our Chicago kilt night) was his first kilt.

I don't want folks to get the wrong idea here. I don't picture Scotland as a place where all lads are kilted. I just find it amusing that when dealing with a form of garb that is traditionally Scottish, I tend to see a kilted person once a week in Chicago, and my parents (and apparently some X Markers) saw none in Scotland.

Hmm... Seems to be a lot more people up in our Northern Illinois/Chicago area taking a liking to the Kilt.

I was around hundreds of people today but, sadly, I was the only kilted person to be found.

I hope I run into another kiltie around here or south at college, I have yet to run into another in person.
