I technically never got Rick Roll'd Thankfully here at my girlfriends house the internet is really slow - so I had a short second to click "X" on the tab upon seeing the tab's title.
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

You might want to check out this mashup with Nirvana. It's surprisingly not bad.

Sorry Raph, but this one escapes me! I well remember Rick Astley and this song, but ...............!!

Oh, well. I put it down to fast approaching senility.

    Take care,
    Ham.

This is the first I've ever heard of the guy, the song, or the prank. But it's got a nice beat and you can dance to it.

    Regards,
    Rex.

It's become an internet "practical joke" of sorts. I don't know how, where, or when it got started, but it takes advantage of the fact that YouTube URLs give no hint as to the actual content. You drop the link into a discussion thread with an appropriate sounding lead-in, and then have the satisfaction of knowing that people will have that song in their head all day. In this thread, I clicked away the instant the YouTube page launched and I could see what it was, but even though I didn't hear note one of the song, it is now currently on a loop in my brain.

There was a time a year ago or so that it happened with such frequency that it was obnoxious. I think the fad has died down to the point that a well-placed RickRoll (that's what it's called; in verb form: to be RickRolled) is actually kind of funny again.
