New Tartan Choice for Me
I'm looking into joining the Civil Air Patrol. I figure it's a good organization and I can contribute my financial skills while learning some emergency skills. Anyway, the organization is also known as the US Air Force Auxiliary.
Now, I like to have some connection to a tartan before I'll have a kilt made in that tartan (except for the less expensive off the rack kilts I own). I figure this organization is enough of a link that I could have a kilt made in the US Air Force tartan.
Now, none of their uniforms allow for a kilt, so I couldn't wear it officially, but any justification for a new kilt, right? Although, there are procedures for getting alternate uniforms approved, so you never know.

I'm told the Mess Dress jacket is perfect for kilting, and the service A jacket can be altered with relative ease.
I also know the AF tartan is very nice, and looks great.
Good luck! And post pics, of course!

Dave,
First off I want to commend you on wanting to associate with such a fine organization.
As you said, anything for a Kilt is a bonus indeed. Good luck.

I'm not a pilot, so I won't be flying any planes, although I guess I could learn. I've got a strong financial background, so I'm looking to become a Financial Officer in the CAP. I do plan to learn some emergency services skills and maybe train to be an Observer for S&R missions.

Dave, In my opinion you are making a connection where you could feel comfortable wearing the USAF tartan. It's a beautiful tartan as well. Good on ya for wanting to join the CAP.

Just an update, I am joining. I've sent my paperwork to the National Headquarters. It took a while to get things arranged because the local squadron was tied up with in inspection for the last couple of months.
Anyway, they don't need a Finance Officer right now, so it looks like I'll be assigned to Personnel. I'm also going to get the training so I can be assigned to a ground team. I will still try to get into Finance not too far down the road, because I can make rank faster that way, since I'm an accountant.
Now I guess I have to start saving for that Air Force tartan kilt.
