For The Newbies (and everyone else)

Here it is, (in no particular order) the official 12 step guide to kilted success and happiness.

    Step 1. Buy kilts.
    Step 2. Buy Hose.
    Step 3. Buy flashes.
    Step 4. Buy sporrans.
    Step 5. Buy kilt pins.
    Step 6. Buy fly plaids.
    Step 7. Buy jackets.
    Step 8. Buy sgian dubhs.
    Step 9. Buy shoes.
Step 10. Learn to make kilts.
Step 11. Hang out on X-Marks.
Step 12. Repeat as necessary and have a good time with friends and family.

Note- step 11 is very important to your progress.

I've posted this before but decided to give it it's own thread.

An excellent list indeed! I always try to do step 11 everyday. Also, step 1 can be repeated several times in a row.

    hmm....

and between every step, add the following

x.5 Share dram of single malt with fellow Xmarkers...( Pour1Malt has the best selection to choose from)

and it is my humble opinion that we move #11 to #1 and bump the rest accordingly

Thanks for the advice, but I must say that as much as I like kilts, I abhor "dressing up".. So the likelihood that I buy fly plaids, jackets or anything else of the sort is VERY small.

I just prefer to keep it as casual as possible...

And I know I'll probably be crucified for saying this but I also can't stand the taste of Scotch Whiskey.. Not too surprising as I rarely drink ANY liquor..

A good Pilsner or Lager on the other hand....

    Thumbs up

way2fractious, I really like your amended version. I consider the guide a work in progress and not engraved in stone.

    My personal 'progression' has been

Step 1. Make kilts from stash of cloth
Step 2. Buy cloth for kilts
    Step 3. Make more kilts
Step 4. Make garments to wear with kilts.
    Step 5. Join X Marks
Step 6. Remake kilts now too large after losing weight, feel smug
Step 7. Throw out half of entire wardrobe
Step 8. Buy even more cloth for all sorts of kilt related items.
Step 9. Spend time making altering improving cleaning pressing dressing
Step 10. Sit back and put feet up whist drinking suitable to season alcoholic beverage and feeling decidedly smug.

Repeat steps 6 to 10 as necessary and report to X Marks ad lib.
