Thank you for informing us, McNice.
They really seem to have fun in Kärnten and also have a relaxed view of kilt wearing. Splendid to see women take part!

i really don t like those vaste sporrans, same for the look.
and the boots with formal make me cry and laugh at a time.

i m just asking me which approach those guys do have with the kilt, as i know the carintians are quite patriotic for their county so maybe they searched for something to pronounce their heritage...

Well, I still find it refreshing that a group of men living in a rather small town (58.000 inhabitants) in Austria find together and establish a society with more than 20 OFFICIAL members and with the purpose of promoting kilt wearing.
From my point of view this is more important than the size of their sporrans or whether they wear boots for formal occasions. These men are NOT Scottish and that they do NOT pretend to be. They are Austrians with no Celtic roots. Accordingly I don't think it is fair to judge the way they dress from Celtic or Scottish standards. You could merely say that you don’t like the look or design of the items.

From the member’s list, by the way, it appears, that a very high proportion of them have high academic educations. Some work as medical doctors, one is a lawyer, the man in the boots at the formal event is a psychiatrist, two or three of them own restaurants, some are in advertising, one is the maker of the Rettl Kärntner kilts (169-590 € = 206-726 $ = 116-406 £) and the one with his wife and son kilted seems to be a Volvo car managing director.
Not bad at all for testimonials. And they do seem pretty good at making PR and thereby promoting kilt wearing.

    What?

What do you mean no Celtic connections?

A bit of history is in order here. The Celts owned what is now Germany, France and Spain prior to about 400 AD and Julius Ceaser. Germany and France were still one country untill about 1000 AD. EVERYONE in Western Europe has some Celtic blood, most of Western Europe is 100% Celtic!

These guys in Austria are NOT Scots in any way, shape or form but they may have a better claim to "Celt" than we do as a Scotsman is a mix of Pict, Celt and Norse.

Good luck to them-they are having fun and there is too little fun in this world.

Too a quick amble round the various 'kilt' sights will produce many if not more as terrifying pictures.

    Sir Robert,
Thank you for your instruction. I guess, however, that what most people today connect with Celtic is Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
Celtic languages still exist there and somewhat in Britanny, France but not (no longer) in Austria.

Roots can be too old to be valid. Just my opinion.
