Not only the english-speaking world
Though I thought I was almost alone wearing a kilt in France, I recently came across a forum, with the strange name "Cramax", aimed at French-speaking kilt-wearers.
It already has over 80 members, which makes me think that kilt wearing may be spreading more quickly than we thought.
Age range : 20 - 64 (me!); the average seems to be surprisingly low.
The excuse here, for those that need one, is that Britanny is celtic, and Normandy was founded by the norse who may have brought tartans to the world in the first place, while, in the centre of France, is Aubigny where the Auld Alliance was sealed.
Vive le kilt !

There is at least one kilt shop in Paris and one in Britanny too!

And of course don't forget that Hamish has that GORGEOUS "Brittany Walking" tartan kilt.

Which, I have to say, was MUCH admired recently in Dumfries - not only at The Ferintosh Guest House but also out in the streets of the town!
Additionally, I have one in the Brittany National tartan, but that is rather more formal and gets worn less frequently!

This olde kiltie's ancestry includes a very long and strong line of Brett/Britt going back to Thomas Brett born about 1535 in St. Clements, Hastings, Sussex, England. The family moved to Hastings, Kent, Sussex, England around 1600 then came to the Colonies before 1640 where the family name went from Brett to Britt.
I gotta believe that this line goes back to France just from their name.
Which, of course has those tartans on my wish list....
Any excuse for a kilt....

I just started taking French, and intend to continue to fluency.
This will be a nice site to work on it with, since I'll be interested in the subject matter as well. Thanks for the link!
