"NOWHERE does box pleated kilts!"

Well here's the story... I was in Glasgow (city) today. Me and Laura (my girlfriend) passed a small market we've been to before. We decided to pop in.
I was walking past a stall with some Sgain Dubhs when I noticed there were kilts behind the woman who was sitting. I was looking at the 10 or so hanging up - freshly made with the pleats stitched. I said "they're really nice kilts... did you make them"
"yes... I'm a freelance kilt maker. I can make a hand-stiched kilt for around £250 if you like"
I said "that's a great price... I'm pretty broke at the moment and I decided that my next kilt will be box or double box pleated though. Do you do that?"
She said "Oh no - not box pleats. No one does that anymore. You'll need to go to a millitary kilt maker for that; finding one is extremely difficult and it'll cost £600 and up if you're lucky enough to find someone to do it."
"oh right. thanks then" I replied and walked away.

I think just about every kilt-making website I've seen does box-pleated kilts for £300-350 at most. right?
I'm extremely far from buying my next kilt anyway

I guess if nowhere means.. in her shop... she is right... otherwise, there are plenty of others who make them... and that also includes others not related to this forum.. in my internet searches, I have found many other kilt makers offering box pleats.. both 8 yd military and 4 yd box pleat.

Peacekeeper83 is right. She would be referring to military box pleats. I make both styles: military box pleats and traditional box pleats.

That is interesting as Paul is in Scotland, and the kilt makers response does seem to confirm that more or less the boxpleat, for civilian wear, is generally unknown here these days and is regarded a irrelevant here------ certainly by the kilt maker(s) and their present day customers anyway. Apart from Paul that is!

Well, that’s a beginning ! I think Paul should be encouraged.

The right to vote and many other things were irrelevant a few years back.

Why shouldn't the box pleat be reintroduced back to Scotland? Its part of its past and an option that could have more Scots wearing the kilt, again. Could it be a bad thing? or should it remain the way it is..
