Old army kilts

Does anybody know what happens to army kilts once the owner demobs?

Hi Bruce,

Try eBay - general search, 'kilt' - then sub-search, 'militaria'. There are usually about half a dozen on. Most are sub 36" waist though.

Like most other "dress" items theyb are usually returned to the quartermaster dept. The only kit maintained when i left the army was that required should you be liable for reserve call up. You will find ex army kilts for sale on the internet and in some shops selling military clothing but bear in mind they tend to have a slightly different cut to civilian made kilts.

I've always hankered after an ex-army kilt. My late cousin who died in his 80s in the 90s had left me his kilt, but his wife had given it to charity before I could ask her about it after he died.

my first kilt was x-army very heavy !! would have lasted a lifetime when I got a new kilt wife gave it to a charity shop

That's different than uniforms in the US. With the exception of honor guard and special duties (which is what our pipe bands are), you keep and maintain your own uniform.

At least with the US Air Force Reserve Pipe Band, the kilts are owned by the band.
