    Oot and aboot in Toronto

I was in downtown Toronto today to shoot some photos and walk around a bit. I went into an artsy furniture place on Queen Street and was looking around when one of the staff came over to compliment me on my kilt. He said "oh, we have a scarf in that some pattern". I don't think I literally rolled my eyes but I thought "yes, I'm sure you have a scarf in Maple Leaf tartan". He walked me over to the one scarf they had in the store and it's..... Maple Leaf tartan. Who'd a thunk it?

There was a pretty big crowd of people for Occupy Toronto and I got quite a few "nice kilt" comments.

Nice. A wee bit breezy for a kilt (gusting to 67km/hr according to the WeatherNetwork.com) so I admire your strength. I'm working so I wasn't able to occupy even my kilt but I applaud that you were there. Well done.

    Didja buy the scarf??

I know Ham cautions against wearing a tartan necktie that matches the kilt tartan but I kinda think a scarf that matches the kilt tartan has a nice look.

That was a good eye for tartan the salesperson had there. Did you buy the scarf?

I get a lot of wear out of my Nova Scotia tartan scarf when I'm bifurcated but don't wear it with tartan kilts. I'd like to get a Maple Leaf tartan scarf eventually.

    I didn't buy the scarf.

I thought it was a bit pricey at $50, I wasn't sure about wearing a matching scarf with a kilt and it never occurred to me that I could wear it with pants!!!

Ron, it looks great on you!

This reminds me of a night a couple of months ago when my wife and I stopped in at the King's Arms in Oakville. There was a lineup and as we walked up I saw a twenty-something guy staring at my kilt. Expecting a clever "nice skirt" or similar, I was somewhat taken aback when he said "I like your Maple Leaf tartan".

He was in a band that wore them.

Yes, I think that is a bit pricey... I've seen brand new tartan scarves (including Maple Leaf) on eBay for around $35 CAD, including shipping...

My Dutch Friendship tartan was free - an unexpected surprise actually. Kathy had some material left over after sewing up the kilt and made it up into a scarf and tossed it in with the kilt - what a wonderful surprise.

I don't wear scarfs much either, usually in the winter. Took it along on the that trip to Flagstaff and I was very glad I did.

Queen West? You were probably one of the more less noticeable bodies.
