Ordering a new special weave tartan

After a horrifying experience with Clansman Knitwear, can anyone suggest a good place to order a new kilt? This would be a special weave in a dress Cunningham (burgandy). Thanks!!

Keith whereabouts are you from, as there are any talented kiltmakers worldwide that you could go to, it may help to narrow it down a bit.

I'm presuming you mean you are looking fora kilt to be made. it shouldn't be difficult really, here is one choice...

but there are lots of kilt makers who could source the tartan as well , the weavers Dalgliesh do it as a standard tartan, but as a dancers weight.

It's a shame that your clansmen couldn't hold up their part of the bargan. We have many kiltmakers on this forum that can help you with selecting a tartan and making kilts. It can only get better and you would be surprised at the help you will get here.

Clansman Knitwear is a company, with a spotty record.

Many on the board have a good experience with Kathy Lare in Albuquerque, NM. She's doing a kilt for me with a custom weave tartan that she is obtaining through Dalgliesh. They are apparently willing to do short custom runs. Mine will be about 16 oz.

If you are in the eastern states, you might want to get in touch with Barbara Tewksbury she is a member here and goes by the user name BarbT. Barb has done two kilts for me here are the threads on them, Barb's work is second to none.

Of course, the Scottish Tartans Museum is happy to make any of the styles of kilts we offer in a custom woven tartan.

McMurdo's RNA kilt above was also a custom woven tartan.

Sorry about you joining the way too long list of folks suckered in by Clansman...main lesson for all is to deal directly with your kiltmaker if at all possible. There are fine recommendations above. Good luck.
