    Potain/Swordsman jackets as formal wear

I've been under the impression that an alternative to the Montrose Doublet and Prince Charlie was to wear a black potain jacket, perhaps with slashed sleeves, or a "Swordsmans" jacket with a nice white Jacobite shirt. this is paired up with a tartan kilt, belt, dress sporrtan, good quality hose and probably ghillie brogues or possibly buckle brogues.

Pour1Malt, didn't you wear something like that for your wedding?

Thoughts, comments from any and all?

I wouldn't wear it to a black tie event.

If you want to dress up a bit without going the full black tie bit they look very effective but I don't think you could ever consider them as as alternative to formal jackets such as the Montrose or PC. I keep banging on about this but a Sherriffmuir does exactly the same thing and can be worn from really formal through to smart casual so why buy a whole lot of jackets? And even more important, it caters for the growing (or shrinking) beer gut no problem so you don't need to worry about having to buy a new one every so often.
Here it is for casual day/evening wear -

and if you want to look more dressy -

    same jacket just different accessories.

Well that looks interesting Phil, never seen a waistcoat like that, NICE. I like the jacket too.

I've thought of a swordsmans jacket also, but will likely not buy one.

    Potain / Swordsman jacket

IMHO the Potain / Swordsman jacket is a costume piece suitable for ren-fairs and the like. It is by no means formal attire. Again.......my humble opinion.
If men were meant to wear skirts they'd be called kilts!

We must define "formal." What exactly is formal - white tie, black tie, etc. For white tie I would say Prince Charlie or Montrose, Black tie you can get away with an Argyll - in my opinion.

    The Jacobite Potain Outfit

    Causal Day Wear/Causal Evening Wear

The Jacobite Potain outfit is fast becoming a very popular hire with the younger generation. This outfit is really meant for general day use, worn mostly at parties and gatherings however this outfit is also worn to weddings and almost any other type of function, it is a matter of choice as to what event you think it is suitable for, many grooms have been married in this style of outfit.

So maybe this is a "new thing", but you know...I think P1M looks GREAT.

One of P1M's picturres from their wedding. Note the mixture of kilt styles.

Now, I'm not saying that a Potain jacket and boots is the equivalent of a Montrose Doublet, but........
