| | | The Power of the Kid
I didn't want to hijack GMan's thread, but this is in some way related to what he was talking about.
I have noticed that I am much more likely to get compliments if one of my kids is with me. Now I'm not referring to when they are also in kilts (everyone loves kids in kilts) but if I take them out and I am kilted it seems to evoke many more positive compliments about my kilt, especially from younger women. Sometimes in ways that if I was single I would definitely stop and follow up. Now I have received the occasional compliment like that without the kids but not nearly as many. I think it is the safety factor. A Dad being considered a "safe" male.
My wife thinks it may be partially the safety factor, but she says it is probably also the fact that women see men taking care of small children as sexy. And since her friends have said they think the kilt is sexy (my wife does too), she thinks all three factors work together in eliciting the compliments.
Anyone had similar experiences?

I can't comment on being a father, but I would think that kids would be a deterrent to potentially abusive commenters.

You may be right but I get so few negative comments anyway that I couldn't compare.

Hmmm... I'm seeing a fundraising opportunity for foster homes and orphanages... rent a kid!
I wonder if this works with pets too? It seems easier to go up and talk to someone you might be interested in about their pet, than without one. So the combo of kilt and pet might be a winning combo!

Have you seen (felt!) where some of those big dogs want to put their cold noses?

Would that be considered an incidental hazard kind of like "the question"?

Pets do seem to have a similar effect in my experience.
And James, wet nose, or a set of claws (smaller dogs) getting under the kilt is quite an unpleasant surprise!
