The Power of the Kilt

I walked into the local Skyline Chili today for lunch with my youngest son. I was there on business, and days where I work for myself, I wear my kilt. Days I work for my mom, I don't, simply because she is friggin crazy and last time I wore one near her store she evicted me. (Which is why I now OWN my house.)

Anyways, I get my son seated in the high chair and take off my coat. First thing that happens is the xmas music plays a Celtic song that I didn't recognize beyond the style of flutes. All the people at the nearby tables are looking at me, and I said to the ones closest to me, "I think Mike is screwing with me" (The manager, who I was th"ere to see, in addition to getting food. I donated hot sauce to their employee charity auction.)

About a minute later, he walks over and the first thing he said was "I did not touch the music, that song really did come up randomly."

I gave him the donation, and the lady at the next table comments on how nice my accent is. So I look at her and reply in my "standard Ohio" accent "I was not blessed with the ability to sing, but accents are natural to me" and one of the people at her table laughed.

Lunch was more fun today than I have had in a long time.

I have the same accent thing. I had someone in walmart convinced I was from the highlands... (A minute later when I clued them in to where I actually lived, they didn't believe me and thought I was faking my American accent...)

I get that "accent" thing too. I can be talking to someone and in the middle of the conversation I get asked "What part of the South are you from?" I'm Utah born and did my military training in So. Carolina and Alabama. My 3rd Great-grandfather was born in Alabama and made the trek to Salt Lake following Brigham Young's wagon train.

AUUGHH!!! I miss skyline! I haven't had one in about 2 years and it sucks!! I regularly get a care package from my mom-in-law with a can or two of the chili, but the way they grill their dogs and steam their buns.... I'm drooling just thinking about it.

My wife is Indian AMerican, and people think she's faking it when she lets her southern drawl come out..Hilarious..."No....thats really how she talks....no....I'm serious....."

I see it says you live in FL, there are 5 there, Clearwater, Ft Lauderdale x2, Ft Myers, and Naples. I don't know where any of those places are though.

Only if you are from somewhere else. Then again, there is a Cincinnati and a Dayton and a Cleavland accent, each a bit different, but really close.
