Progress???

Hell-o all,

Do you feel that we have made progress in educating the masses about Kilts? Are we spinning our wheels? Do we react differently to those odd comments? Are we better off than where we were six months ago, a year or more?

Well, on second thought, I guess we are.

If the numbers of "new members" (myself included), I must say progress s being made!!

I feel I've made a lot of progress personally in nearly three years of full time kilt wearing, and local people are now well accustomed to me kilted. Whether many others have been influenced to wear the kilt now, well I'm not too confident there.
Those that do have a kilt still think it's for "special occasions" only.

To answer the question posed... Yes, I think I'm doing something. I wear kilts full time and no longer get comments around town. Also, I educate people every time they come into the shop!

Are we making progress? Sure, but it is SLOW.

No individual here is going to change society completely, but we can each do our part by educating the people we meet.

First of all, good to see you back, Graham. Secondly, I still haven't seen another kilt wearer in my area outside of the highland games, or in a resturant nearby when the games were in progress.

I think this is largley dependant on regional attitudes. People who live in a larger, more metropolitan area are usually going to be more open to different ideas and be more comfortable with individual expression than a smaller town that has less outside influence. Generally speaking.

I can't say I've made a big difference...I can't even get my wife to like it But I did get a few people at work interested, and a couple friends.

Thanks Rocky and Jermc, I don't have the time I once had to post (Glen your position as top poster is safe), but it's good to be back to a site that just like to talk kilts.

Speaking of Rocky, he and those like him, churning out kilts every day at an affordable price are doing the most to promote kilts.
They provide the answer to two of the most common objections:
1. Too expensive to afford
2. Only for special occasions

To be able to buy several kilts at good prices that can be worn at work, at play and at special events encouraged me to wear kilts more often.

For us mere non-kiltmaking mortals, well, we still play an important role. Every time i wear a kilt in public I see myself as an ambassador of the kilt. I therefore have a duty to wear it well, whether formal or casual, with careful co-ordination with colours, leathers, with balance and harmony. This extends to my attitude, deportment, including carefulness with modesty.

Kilt wearing effects our whole lives, I hope we can affect and infect others with the joy we share in kilted freedom.

The reward comes with comments such as one today, on a small stepladder doing some repairs to a sign in a shop, the female manager walks past and says "nice legs" (which is really not true), but who else but those kilted get a comment like that!! I ask you!

You play ANOTHER important role too! By BUYING kilts from people who "make it possible" such as USAK, FK, CCK, UK, Bear, etc... you make it possible for us to EAT and to continue MAKING the kilts for you to wear! Symbiotic relationship?
