    Progress, progress...

Well, as some of you are aware, I have had a little trouble with people accepting my kilt wearing at work. There has been some great progress in that area as of late. I currently have two jobs. I work as a middle school teacher during the day and I am an Adult education teacher at night (I help adults who have dropped out of school get their diploma or a GED). When the office staff heard I was wearing a kilt, they demanded that I wear it to work. Well, who was I not to give in to their demands? Since I only work that job Tues-Thurs, I thought St. Patrick's day would be a perfect day to wear it. I showed up at the office after the day job and got a lot of great reaction. In fact my boss and her boss both came out to see me that day in my classroom. It was really nice to have some people be happy and excited about me wearing my kilt.

Another cool thing is that while I was in the office that afternoon, the school counselor insisted on taking my picture. Well, my kilt picture has now become my staff picture that hangs on the wall in the main office with all the other staff members. You can probably guess mine stands out just a little. You can't walk by our main offices without seeing the teacher in the kilt! I love it.

Here is the picture they posted:

Great sporran! Overall, you look presentable, but some people just have their prejudices about kilts.

It's great that they allowed you to be kilted for the staff picture.

    Hi Bricekolob,

A good, understated and professional look. All the blacks work well together as a backdrop for the kilt, but the whole ensemble doesn't scream 'Look at me!' Its more of a 'This is who I am and this is what I do'. I think the look works for you very well.

    Regards

    Chas

You should be proud of the picture and the school for embracing our multicultural world. My current avatar is my staff picture at the church where I teach kindergarten/first grade.
