Well in spite of all of my bluster and bravado, I am bifurcating tomorrow. Have training at the home office in Baltimore and the District Supervisor asked me to "wear what you would wear in an office".

I can take a hint, and don't feel like this is the place to make a stand. The guy works with me on any kind of issue and I get the sense that he would be embarrassed by me wearing a kilt.

So this dog has decided to restrict himself to the unmanly dress of the lowlander for a day.

Which got me to thinking, is there anybody else on the board who has worn trousers to spare somebody else's feelings and/or avoid confrontation?

If so, how do you feel about your decision in hindsight?

Nothing life threatening or anything, just curious.

I have been very lucky, of late, but before going to a recent awards dinner, I asked the honoree if he minded that I wear kilt. He's Hispanic, and he said no, that he liked the kilt!

Always best to ask, if you are concerned with hurting someones feelings.

If you are an old curmudgeon, then it and go ahead with what you would want to wear anyway.

Ummm, yeah...me...

After the two plus years of being full time kilted at work went to pants when asked to for a "meet and greet" of a potential client. Then went the 14 weeks in pants while the dress code issue was resolved.

Now that I'm back in kilts I find I'm alternating between kilts and pants WHEN I CHOOSE to. I'm thinking it makes the point that the choice is mine, not managements....don't know if they see it that way....they might be thinking, "At least he's partially compliant with what we really want."

Think there are a lot of others on the board who mix kilts and pants at work for various reasons.

I also found that when I initially went back to pants a lot of coworkers felt I just didn't look right in them.

I have not had to at work but if they asked me to wear pants I would, don't get me wrong I love wearing the kilt, however it is this job that allows me the money to indulge in kilts so sometimes I think you need to tow their line not yours.

My Girl and I went to a big birthday bash for a friend on Saturday and from the beginning I was to wear a kilt. Then, day of, we got word that an old girlfirend (an arch enemy) of my Girl was going to be there. As my Girl wanted to be comfortable and confident and I was willing to do anything to help! So pants it was for me.

As it turned out the party was rained out and didn't happen, so all was for not.

OK, so we're "men and a half" when we're kilted (and for our lady members, "ladies and a half"), but let's face it: we still rock even if we wear pants.

In the vein of Churchill's "Ah but tomorrow I shall be sober, and you will still be ugly": "Ah, but tomorrow I'll be kilted again, and you'll still be in pants."

yep... when I have to either go into the office for training or out to a customer site (very rarely) I have to wear pants... as far as wearing pants because it would help spare someone of being potentially embarrassed.. when going to my youngest son school to get his class schedule this year.. I gave him the choice... me kilted or not... he said that he loves the kilts..buuuuuut... asked me if I would mind wearing something else...I wore shorts...he just didn't want to deal with the flack from other kids...he already gets enough of that since he's VERY short for his age (and currently taking growth hormone injections daily to help correct that).. of course I reminded him... if he thinks he's get flack over ME wearing a kilt... then maybe he needs to rethink HIM wearing one in public....

I'm careful if I'm grumpy, sometimes I know I'm not going to be patient. Why spoil the day?

To cover for a friend, or co-worker, sure, that's part of the clan mentality.
