| | | Purchasing a kilt in Seattle
Any suggestions for a place to have a kilt made in Seattle? I've been reading the recommendations for kiltmakers here and I'm wondering if there's something local I should take a look at before talking to people from farther away.

The Tartan Thistle is close, they are located on one of the islands accesible by ferry, and are great to work with (by the I mean very friendly, I don't actually have a kilt by them). From what I understand North Channel is going into retirement.
Personally, I've had all of mine shipped in. Barb T. did my tank and I couldn't be happier, SWK (and others) do great casual work, and there's a bunch of great kilt makers for budgets large and small..
Just not so much in/near Seattle. I would check out Tartan Thistle at http://www.tartanthistle.com

I was nervous about ordering a kilt from someone out of state, or even out of country.
I don't know of anyone in your area, but I checked with my local tuxedo rental shops, and they all pointed me to a local kilt shop. You might give that a try.
You will be glad that you were measured in person by a professional. If it wasn't my first kilt, I would have no problem ordering from a well-recommended kilt maker via website. But I still prefer the personal interaction.

What's most important is to get into a shop that knows how to measure you. After you get measured, you can use those measurements to order kilts from almost anywhere (as long as they run true-to-measurement). So go get measured, get your first kilt, and then you'll have your measurements when the "itch" for more kilts becomes too much to tolerate.

Two other excellent kiltmakers in BC are Sadie Livingston of Scottish Design and Robert MacDonald of West Coast Kilts. I have one of Sadie's and I know several people with Robert's. All top-quality, traditional kilts.

Just ordered a schwak of stuff from Northern Channel, great prices on off hire gear, getting to the skinny on kilts, he had one adult in Black Watch, for a skinny fella, and, by the sounds of it, a few in the Lindsay tartan, but had full PC highland attire for the eldest kid, other than ghillie brogues, and had kilt and sporran for the youngest kid, and completed my Black Tie attire with PC Jacket and vest, ghillie brogues, some more flashes, tux shirt and bowtie, basically full outfit for myself minus the sporran, hose, and kilt, without breaking the bank, should be getting shipped today or tomorrow will update after receiving the gear.
