A review of my first real non-traditional.

Ok so as a wearer of only traditional style kilts I decided it was time to take the plunge and find out what all the fuss was about when it came to real non-traditionals. The question was what to order...a Utilikilt, Amerikilt, maybe a hemp kilt? Hmmm, what to choose, what to choose...but choose I did and my review is below.

So what did I choose? I decided I couldn't go all new age etc. (I do have a reputation as a snob to keep up remember). So I chose to get my kilt in a traditional tartan. I ordered a Black Watch 1 1/2 yarder from MacPenny's. It's a poly (with a nice soft hand) and has their standard sporran pocket. It has velcro fasteners.

The length is a tad shorter than I am used to, but of course I need to keep reminding myself that it is meant to be worn much lower than my traditional kilts. It is of course hemmed which is noticeable because of the thickness of the material. Given the cost I can understand that they wouldn't use a material with a selvedge edge. It's quite comfortable, much lighter than my tanks, but of course as many of us have experienced the under apron is a bit short. This has been something I have heard in other reviews of non-traditionals so I didn't find it surprising.

All-in-all very comfortable and well worth the $14.99 investment. Pictures to come later.
Disclaimer - I have been tried and convicted as a "Kilt Snob" so please be aware any statement I make may be biased towards tradition and good taste. LOL

What kind of use do you have planned for it? Knockabout at home, chores? Wearing out to Kilt Nights in NYC?

(Note: shameless publicity for them )

Is it really only 1.5 yards?

Congratulations on the new kilt, I really need to see pictures of this, my imagination just isn't doing it for me on this one.

So, can I assume that the 8 yards of fabric that you asked me to special order and that has been sitting in my shop for over a year now is a lost cause?

Not sure if I'm ready to venture out in a non-traditional yet.

Not on your life! You will be receiving measurements for the two kilts very soon. The price was just too good to pass this one up.

Are the two of you suggesting that I might not be completely truthful? Why I have never been so insulted in my life!

So to clear up this slander I hereby present the pic:

Yes it's one of the JC Penny's bath "kilts" that was brought up in another thread. If you go to the SITE you can see they have it in Black Watch so when the price came down I thought I would get one for the heck of it.

It's fine for throwing on after a shower or possible over a bathing suit, if you feel you need to do that. Quite soft and hopefully the static will die down once it gets some fabric softener.

Sorry for the put on...I couldn't help myself
