river rafting in pv material

Hello all

How does pv hold up when you float "in" the river instead of in the raft? Are the pleats done for, or are you still wearing a kilt when it dries on you?
I intend to raft, hike, etc in the USAK casual I have ordered.

USAK's pleats hold up extremely well. I'd say PV's pleat-holding ability is second only to wool, and far better than most other fabrics. That's why Rocky uses it. You'll probably need to press the pleats when you get home, but it'll still look like you're wearing a kilt in the meantime. I mean, Rocky informs us to wash our PV in cold water, so you'll basically just be washing your kilt (albeit most of us take them off to wash them :-)

I always baste and press my kilt after I wash it, although it still looks just like a kilt when it comes out of the water and dries...it's just got a few wrinkles that need to be pressed out.

I agree with Cat - only no need to "press" the pleats, just steam them - the wrinkles fall out and if you hold the bottom of each pleat as you steam the knife pleats reset.

Go for it. Here are three of my PV USA Kilts rafting in Glen Canyon of the Colorado River...they get wet and dry quickly.







And just 'cause they ain't wet in these pics don't mean they weren't wet a few seconds later...they were.

I am not sure why you would want to wear a kilt when you are water rafting. I would save the kilt until you are off the raft.

one thing to mention... the casual's pleats are SEWN IN... they're still be there when you get out of the water (unless some crafty fish have seam rippers and a lot of patience).

Sounds like I will be trying it out.
River, I just got back from the Green River below Flaming Gorge dam. A ways north of Powell, but a couple of the people I went with are at Powell right now.

In the pics above the Buccleuch is a USA Kilts Casual, the Ireland's National and Loud MacLeod are Semi-trads. Both worked for me.

Ron beat me to it but I'll also add that we have a member here who has a PV Bear kilt that he's worn for thousands of miles of long distance hiking. Including rainstorms, snowstorms, fording rivers etc.

I think PV wears very well.
