I noticed your new avatar. I'm guessing it is an Irish Caubeen on your head. I think it is quite dashing and shows how much of a statement the right headgear can make. Well done, kilted brother.

Actually, it appears to be a tam o' shanter (yes, a very good look; much better than a glen, and fits Riverkilt to a T). The one in my avatar is a caubeen.

Does one traditionally put a badge on the rosette of a caubeen or leave it plain?

Following the custom of the Irish regiments of the British Army, a regimental badge is worn on the caubeen:

Civilians certainly could wear a badge as well; I've seen the relatively new "Irish clan badges" available being worn on caubeens.

Thanks for the good information (as always). I had seen some of those pictures before but couldn't make out if the badge was on a rossette or if the military caubeens didn't have one.

Hmmm... I have a a nice diced glengarry, a royal blue balmoral, various berets, and a couple of driving caps. Perhaps I need a caubeen to round out my hat collection

(somewhere the F-H.C.A.G. is frowning mightily and saying "Not Another Hat!" )
