So I'm at work - no kilt because its so grubby at work. Client comes in for a court ordered DUI screening. He keeps looking at my kilt pics on my office wall.

When I get around to asking him what he was drinking the night of his DUI he says, "Kiltlifter."

He didn't realize how potent the brew is and that just two were enough to make him too drunk to drive. Cops found him because he was speeding. Never a good idea to attract the cops attention when driving drunk.

So gave him some education and information so maybe he can avoid a second DUI.

DUIs are expensive on multiple fronts. Didn't seem the thing to do to encourage him to buy a kilt to wear when he's drinking Kiltlifter.

I have to agree. And the fine is likely to leave him unable to afford a kilt to get lifted.

BTW, it says right on the bottle's label that the alcohol content is 8%. . .

That is unfortunate. Around here, not realizing the potency wouldn't be an issue, as any drink (weak or strong) would put you over the limit.

The longer I live in Japan, the more I tend to lean toward agreeing with the ZERO tolerance drinking/driving law. When I just look around as I'm out and about, and see all the people talking and texting on their phones while they drive, not to mention all the other stupid things like lane-changes without signalling, driving 75km/h in a 50 zone, running red lights, pulling into traffic without looking.... I SHUDDER to think what things would look like here with people having had even ONE drink....

...how about the tragedy of someone being hurt, maimed or killed.
I am not insensitive to people with issues, however, I have very little sympathy for someone who gets drunk and gets behind the wheel. I have had long, cold and wet walks home a few times when I even thought I might be at risk.

ETA: Not just the fine, but the increased insurance premiums as well.

Most people have little idea what that 8% would mean. They don't know that it would be twice the strength of some other beers. Education on drinking and driving is focussed mainly on not doing it, and when it does address how much you can drink and still drive, it usually tries to simplify things down to a number of 'standard drinks', often without any serious attempt to explain what that might mean.

Of course, I would hope that RiverKilt does a little better than that ...

Lordy Lordy do I explain - and they leave knowing what their limit is in regular brews, fortified brews, shots, etc.

And I always ask them if they thanked the cop for pulling them over since they have no clue what woulda coulda happened a block down the street. Amazing how many say they did thank the cop...though its usually the non-alcoholic drunk drivers that do as opposed to the alcoholic drunk drivers.

Anyhow - point of the post was the coincidence of a Kiltlifters DUI...been doing this work for 18 years and its my first Kiltlifter's DUI. Hopefully, the kilted gents know their limits and observe them.
