Derek, I think it would be a good investment. That way you don't have to feel underdressed when your wife is dressed up. I need to start thinking about purchasing a jacket as well. I've decided that the jacket will be an Argyll rather than a Prince Charlie since the Argyll can be worn with a tie and a kilt belt, and is usually acceptable for both formal and semi-formal events.

If you're on a tight budget, don't forget about finding a nice tweed jacket at a jumble sale, and altering it. I've seen three jackets done like this now, besides my own, and have been impressed each time.
