    safe among the chosen

Well, I am happy to report that my new tank came in today. I have to give a big thumbs up to Scotweb Kiltstore for their service and their product. Nick and Stewart were both very helpful and forthcoming at all times.

Some may have seen a post I made not too long ago asking about a special pleating arrangement I had come up with for the Scotland National tartan. I had done some cut and paste in a photoshop-like program and liked the result.

Well, I presented that mock-up to Scotweb and asked if it could be done. The result is below.

I ordered an 8 yard 16 ounce Jura wool kilt, pleated to the stripe. It cost me just a little over $400 dollars with a pair of hose and express delivery and I asked that they get it to me in less than 30 days.

I am very happy with it. The length (which I had worried about) is perfect and the weight and feel of the kilt is simply astonishing--neither too heavy nor scratchy at all. The only thing I would change (and I mention this for those of you who, like me, are slender and have no hips to speak of) is that I would subtract a half inch to an inch off the waist measurement. The kilt fits fine but the buckles are cinched up tight.

This is my first kilt and I am waiting on my second.

I also added a photo of my new (vintage) blackthorn root knob walking stick.

Very nice! Very great looking kilt . I am "patiently" awaiting the arrival of my first 8-yard kilt now. Every day, I am finding myself constantly looking at the calendar and, reminding everyone around me, LOL. Is that normal or, am I just weird like that?

Anyway, again it's a nice looking kilt, congratulations!

    That is very, very nice.

Thanks! I was really was anxious about this because kilts are normally pleated to the sett (or so I've been told) but I wanted that strong "verticality" that comes with pleating to the stripe so you get that eye catching swing like you see in "Tunes of Glory." the white stripes worked out great.

Excellent aquisition. And the blackthorn walking stick really tops off the outfit.
