    School uniform kilts

Never mind the reference to 'skirts': the boys are "proud of their kilts".

That is great I really think they have something there my favorite part:

“I like it because it is free. If I were told to choose between this and trousers, I would go with this (his kilt),” he says.

Odel says he would only put on a trouser if it were made compulsory. Otherwise, he will keep his kilt on.

Just wonderful, thanks for the link.

Excellent. Here in Scotland there are very few schools at present where the kilt is part of the boys' uniform and the tradition had been gradually dying out, but hopefully now that kilts are becoming more fashionable we will see more kilts as part of the school uniform.

This line is rich -- "Common myth is that the Scottish do not wear underwear under their kilts."

    Myth? Myth????

Someone needs to do better fact-checking.

    Seriously...great article.

Freedomlover...are you ever going to make it over to Asheville for a kilt night?

I wonder why they even have to keep on about wearing underwear?
    It's so tiresome

Although seperate this is in the Uganda of Idi Amin "the last King of Scotland". I point this out just as a curiosity, as the school and uniform was founded in 1926 around the time of the birth of Amin.

One of the things that I observed on a trip to Uganda in 2006 is that the men all wore long pants -- no shorts. Given the climate of living on the equator, that surprised me. Probably a reflection of the British influence. I think that the school kilts would be quite comfortable, but a strong contrast to usual dress -- at least around Kampala.
