Seen on eBay: 32" Hunting Stewart, genuine regimental

If it weren't too small, I'd be bidding on this:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=7403928004&ss
"Genuine army issue kilt by Thomas Gordon of Glasgow who made the best quality army kilts. Regimental tartan for Royal Scots and some O.T.C. units. Condition is very good and retains original label which states "THOMAS GORDON & SON LTD. GLASGOW - SIZE 10, HEIGHT 5.5 FT. - 5.6 FT., WAIST 31 INCH, BREECH 38". These size are erring on the side of cation. I am 32" waist, 5ft 8 ins and it fits me fine. Has original leather straps. Heavy wool. No moth or damage. Can't find a date but I would guess 1940-1950. Guaranteed genuine."

That's pretty sweet! It's cool to see something from the war.

    Hi,

Now that truly is a "tank"; bet with reasonable care it would last several generations. Wish it were my size...

I have several kilts of that type and by that maker. They are at least 16 oz. weight and very well built. The wool on the ones I have is rougher than on other kilts.

The same kilt popped up in one of my automatic eBay searches.
I like the tartan, and I could lose an inch or two off my waist ... but losing half a foot in height would be a little difficult.
Were there any tall Highlanders? Say, 6'00"? After all, one of my Robertson great-uncles was 6'4" tall.
I am easily moved for sympathy for dogs, far more so than for humans, because dogs do not understand. There is no way to explain that you will return, that the vet will make it all better, that they cannot go shooting today because that is not what today is about. They cannot work out that their misery is finite and will some time end, and so their misery is magnified.

you could wear it as a summer mini-kilt.... plenty of air-conditioning & swing to keep everything nice & cool down below.....

I have a regimental Hunting Stewart tartan kilt currently on consigment from a gent for only $200. The waist on that one is 35". It was issued in 1948, but only worn twice! It's in really great shape, and is a really good price. If anyone is interested, PM me.

Hmm, both of those are tempting, but not quite. Although I'm currently shrinking my waist, a 32" might never fit. So Matt's listed kilt there sounds great, but I'm moving in a month, and need to save up. Durnit.
