    Serious "Question" and Comment

I got two kilt comments yesterday.

I manage our data backup system here at the college where I work and which leaves me the responsibility for taking tapes offsite for strorage in a safety deposit box. The folks at the bank all know me by now, but sometimes I have to train a new teller (vault paperwork process). When I came in there was a new teller at the drive-up window and she turned around to greet me from about 50 or 60 feet away. Another teller was helping me at the vault when the first teller walked over and asked, "Is that a kilt?" I told her it was and she responded, "What's underneath it?" loudly enough for everyone in the bank to hear. I could hear gasps and chuckles all around. As I attempted to respond, she went on about how she had seen a TV program about men and kilts that stated the traditional way to wear a kilt was with nothing underneath. I responded that that would have to remain a mystery. She then asked about the pouch, "what's that called again?" I informed her it was a sporran. She told me that she really liked the kilt. At that point I walked into the vault, which ended the conversation.

I was difficult to be annoyed at her because I could see that she was truly curious and really admired my kilt and accessories. It was an innocent question and when she realized her faux pax, she seemed a bit embarrased. I think I laughed more than anyone when she "popped the question"!

Later in the day, I was pushing a cart with computer equipment through our cafeteria and female student walked by me smiling and just said "Sweet!".

After a year and a half of full time kilt wearing, I'm still suprised at the power of the kilt to spark interest.

I love when stuff like the second example happens, the first I am getting tired of. Thankfully, everyone at work is so used to it now they dont say anything about it, heck they even ask me if I am wearing a kilt tommorrow.

You could have told her that unlike the tapes there was no backup!

Yeah, I got a "Sweet!" when I was out last weekend, so despite the night having a rather humorous (at my expense) ending... it started out well.

If you had the time before going into the vault you could have spoken to her, o well, you had work to do. By and large ... from your post I must say you are a good ambasador of the kilt
