    A small victory

So, as several of you know, I have gotten the big red "NO" over kilts at school dances more than once.

For history class, I did a small presentation over the 42nd Highland Regiment during the French and Indian War. I brought in some visuals props such as a powder horn, musket balls, pictures of the Uniforms of the period, and of course, several yards of Black Watch tartan. I demonstrated how to wear the belted plaid in class, and gave a little background and info about it as well. My history teacher, who is actually on my side over the whole kilt ordeal, thought it was awesome that I brought in the stuff, especially the plaid.

Hey, nothing big, but a few minutes kilted in History class is better than none at all! And no, I still haven't given up my original struggle for the right to be kilted at Prom.

    Thanks!

AS a certified teacher and life-long learner, let me say this: Never let school get in the way of your education.

And I am glad to see that you haven't. You are a perfect example of a person who takes what he can from the system and adds what he needs, and that makes you a very wise young man.

Quite frankly, not wearing a kilt is a small thing--you'll get to wear one plenty later on--so don't fret the foolishness of your overseers. A saari or daishiki would probably be OK'ed, but the fact is , a kilt isn't.

Oh, yawn. Blow it off, and keep on keeping on. We love your spunk and desire to know and be. Esse, quam videri.

Congratulations, my young friend. I am proud to know you.

Except in schools. (Oops! Did I, an aspiring history teacher, just say that? )

The bold part, I agree with. The rest? Well, if you let them get away with racist acts (and that's what it is if "a saari or daishiki would probably be OK'ed, but a kilt isn't.") then what's to stop them from wontonly taking rights away from others?
