solid color kilts- love them or hate them?
I like some of the solid colors I've seen. Mainly a good green. I'm looking for opinions on more traditional kilts than the utilikilt style.

Stillwater Kilts has a Heavyweight wool kilt in green, with a "shadow" tartan that only shows under direct light. Its on my list.

Is this the sort of thing you are asking about?

Some claim that a solid colored kilt cannot swish like a Tartan kilt. Tell that to the woman who was following me down the street and too this.

Or perhaps something like this?

Do you want something to work in?

Or were you asking about box pleats perhaps?

Or even something like this?

I wear the kilt because: Swish + Swagger = Swoon.

In my opinion, they look great, and can make an outfit feel far more modern than tartan. The only downside in my eyes is that to the uninformed, they don't shout "KILT" as loud as "SKIRT" at first glance. Not that I care too much about that.
The kilt in my profile picture is solid grey wool, and I had a lot of fun coming up with outfits around it from super-casual to semi-formal.

Ive got a Saffron kilt on the way and plan to find some other nice solids to add to my collection. Though I enjoy my tartan kilts the solids will allow me to wear my winter plaid flannel shirts. They just dont look right with a tartan kilt. With my tartans I tend to keep with solid color shirts. Of course my old ragwool sweaters will go with either. With all my kilts I have to be careful, Ive two cats that shed winter and summer.

I really like the solid coloured kilts and the tweeds, but I think the next one on my list is a saffron from Keltoi, a la http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...oi-kilt-65202/

I have to agree with Joel Mimbs. I've been eyeing the Stillwater shadow tartan in green for a while also. I definitely like the green Paul Henry is wearing. I find it annoying that to most people a kilt looks like a skirt right from the start. I think that a non-tartan kilt would definitely make this a more frequent occurance. I am in Jonesboro, Arkansas on most weekends, and on one of these my family visited the Nature Center in Craighead Forest Park. I was of course kilted, and received many odd looks on this day. We were walking a lot, and a kilt is the best thing for that. Some other people were smiling because they knew it was a kilt, but I feel a solid color would have confused everyone.

Re: solid color kilts- love them or hate them?
I have 3 solid color kilts and 1 tartan kilt. My wife actually prefers the solid colors, maybe because they look more "contemporary". I do believe it helps to have leather accessories like belts and sporrans, to help define a "more masculine" look. I wear my solid color kilts around my small town of Dickson, Tennessee, where kilts are definitely out of the ordinary. This may challenge some people's ideas about solid color kilts, but I have gotten the "skirt" comment as often in my tartan kilt as in my solid ones (rarely in either case). Even in my small town, most people recognize solids as kilts as opposed to "skirts". If you wear it like a man, with confidence, there will be few problems.
