    St Kilda (Nicholson) in Edinburgh

I need to make it known that I have received some pretty awful service from this kiltmaker in Edinburgh. They are at the bottom of the Royal Mile.

In April I ordered a made to measure kilt jacket and waistcoat in tweed and paid £150.00 of the total price of £300.00. I was quoted 4 weeks delivery. After 6 weeks I called in the shop and was told that it was not there but definitely would be there in 3 weeks, when I was next in Edinburgh. I called back 3 weeks later and it was not there. I was guaranteed it would be in the shop the following Monday, and the proprietor agred to post it to me at their expense. It did not arrive. I called in for the third time last Saturday and it still was not there ! I was told that the computer indicated that they had lost it.

I have to say that in all of this I was never contacted by the shop at all with any information or apology.

I demanded my money back and the only good thing is that it was refunded without question.

I hope I have kept this factual. With service like this I wil not use them again and this warning must go out to XMarkers when they are looking for a supplier.

That's a shame, I got my very first kilt from them some years ago, before the St Kilda connection, and they were extremely helpful , I've been back a few times since, but only for accessories rather than kilts or jackets, and didn't have a problem.
Hope you can get a jacket elsewhere soon

Bad products are bad products and bad service is bad service. Its hard to get more factual than that. I'm so sorry to hear about your experience but at least it can act as a warning to other XMarkers.

I hope you find a better kilt shop - we'd love to se you decked out in a new jacket and waistcoat.

    Let the buyer beware!

    Alan,

I am so sorry to hear of your extremely poor service from St. Kilda on The Royal Mile. Before the take-over I shopped there several times - not for any major purchases though - and always was treated as if I had bought a full-kilt outfit, but that's what family businesses do!

Regrettably, I have not made it back to Edinburgh for about three/four years so have not seen the shop since it was sold, but experience tells me that things are never the same for the customer once these take-overs occur.

Fortunately you were reimbursed without hassle, but that does not compensate for the dreadful waste of time, and the loss of an item you obviously particularly wanted. There still are good, relaible kilt-makers and Highland Dress retailers out there, even on The Royal Mile, so better luck next time.

    Take care,
    Ham.

I'm extremely sorry to hear of your experience Andy.

I found them nothing but helpful when I visited last October and my order was delivered within three weeks. It was for a kilt though not a jacket and I was very pleased with the result - I wore the kilt at Harpenden the other week and also back in January at Caerlaverock.

I myself would use them again but it certainly sounds that besides a refund, an apology is due in your case.
