Stupid Me!!

My Alexis Malcolm cilt came in this past week, and it's truly beautiful: the Williams of Wales 13 oz wool is shockingly softer than my 16 oz tanks, and you can't even see the stitching for the hem on the outside of the apron-I looked for it *hard*. The fly plaid, flashes, and cilt pin all were as requested...except the cilt. It seems when alexis and I were discussing my measurements I screwed up and gave her my old kilt's overall length instead of my measured navel-to-knee dimensions, so my cilt came in too long! I beat myself up about it, but Alexis said don't worry: everybody gets one free adjustment, and since the Welsh tartans don't have a selvedge the hem could be corrected easy as pie. I sent the cilt back the next day and now my jonesing has begun anew.

Bryan...I should survive the cilt jones: my Kathy Lare kilt will be here any day now...

I've looked at the Williams of Wales on other sites and on each the color varies. Is it a maroon or a purple? You can't always trust what you see on your screen.

It's a burgundy color, very rich; the red will seem almost ruby in bright light, but still more red than purple in lower light. The green, black, and yellow is very muted. If you're thinking about a Williams cilt, contact Alexis Malcolm: she sent me a swatch of the tartan "tout de suite" when I asked.

Have a strong Bowen line from Wales on my father's side and a Lewis line on my mother's side....great great grandfather Lewis was, duh, a coal miner/teamster at the coal mines in the Iowa coal banks. Kinda had my eye on a Welsh kilt if my plastic ever cools down...

Off to check them out.

Boy Ron: we're both clan Donald *and* Welsh...if you were to tell me you've got some French in your lineage I'd begin to think we might actually be related! My dad used to say that the reason the Welsh always sweat so much was because it was the only way to purge the coal dust from our pores...

I am jonesing *hard* for the Borodale kilt from Kathy; she said it was just such a beautiful tartan to work with-she really seemed excited about it. I'm guessing it should show early next week. Provided I haven't screwed up these measurements, I'll post pictures when it comes in.

My great Grandmother was a Williams so I have been looking at the Williams of Wales tartan. Thanks for the description on the color and the kilt maker as I would like to stay in country if possible.
