A subtle way of asking the question ..

This is now about the fourth or fifth time the following has happened to me. We were all out for Sunday lunch yesterday at one of the pubs I've already posted about in the pics section. Walking back from the bar with me pint (Moorland Original Bitter) I was stopped by a table with a two couples on it. The two women, (aged about 60 and 30, mother and daughter I think), said they had been admiring my Cilt and wanted to know more about it etc etc. They thought it was great that I was 'out there' wearing it. The last thing that was said to me before I went back to my friends was from the 30 ish lady. She said 'you must be nice and cool' .. I replied, that indeed, I could tell them first hand, I was nice and cool. They both gave a nice cheeky smile. Just wondered if anyone has had that said to them.

Well something similar happened to me during our "Indian Summer" weekend,

I was shopping in Hereford and there were two lady shop assistants who said I looked smart and one of them said that her colleague had been trying to waft my pleats from behind

I said they would have to pray for a breeze but that a breeze always felt good!

Lol, yes. I had about the exact same thing said to me when I was in Chicago wearing mine. A young lady passed me on the street with the goofiest grin ever and said "Are you keeping cool?"

Ha ha ha ... I laughed.

During my recent dental check-up my dentist, a lady, was clearly working out a way to pose the question in a properly professional manner.

"How many times have you been asked what you wear under there?" was what she came up with at the end of the exam.

"Many times," I said, "and how many times do you think I told them?"

"None," she said with a grin.

Yep, I was recently asked about the "ventilation system." "Quite adequate" said I.

The not too subtle comment I got this past summer was...

"Enjoying a little freedom are we?" delivered with a slightly sarcastic mirth.

This from a cousin of my wife.

Never been asked if I was cool... just cold.

Asking if I am cool/comfortable seems to be the preferred way for people who want to ask the "Question" but have some sense of propriety. I always just agree, its none of their business.

And on a related note, I had a colleague I have known for years (but only see about once a year), ask me the question. My response was:

You really don't want to know.
If I'm not wearing underpants, you will immediately back your chair up about 40 feet and wish you had not asked!
If I am wearing underwear, some of the mystique and adventure will have been taken from your view of a kilt wearer.
Either way, you lose and I don't!

Actually, I did not add the last line with her, but it would work well for parties and large gatherings.

Too bad there isn't a subtle way of showing the answer to the subtle inquirer !!!

My personal favorite was bing asked if I "felt that breeze?" with a knowing wink
